Why EPN Enrollment Gets Missed

EPN enrollment is one of the least-known California requirements for trucking employers. As a result, many small fleets only learn about it when someone asks for it.

Drivers not enrolled in EPN

The California DMV says employers must enroll all employed drivers identified in Vehicle Code §1808.1 in the Employer Pull Notice program. Many small fleets don’t know it applies to them.

A driver list that’s out of date

Drivers come and go. However, your EPN account only protects you when it matches the drivers you actually employ.

One more item on a long list

Between Clean Truck Check, Form 2290, registration and MCS-150, EPN is easy to push down the list. That’s usually when it gets missed.

More trucks, more deadlines

With quarterly testing coming for OBD trucks in October 2027, a 10-truck fleet goes from 20 Clean Truck Check deadlines a year to 40. Add 2290, registration and MCS-150, and dates start slipping.
